The Department of International and European Law of Voronezh state university was founded in 2005. The founder and the chairperson of the Department is professor, Doctor of Law Biryukov Pavel Nikolaevich.
The Department trains highly qualified professionals and studies the issues of international and European Law, development of the legal system of the Russian federation and foreign countries.
The staff actively carries out scientific and academic work. The Department of International and European Law takes part in close international cooperation on the base of the development of bilateral and multilateral links, taking part in educational and scientific projects, international conferences, workshops and «round tables». Due to professor Pavel Nikolaevich Biryukov’s work as the chairperson the Department has won scientific weight in the Russian Federation as well as abroad.
The Department keeps in touch with Russian and foreign educational institutions, closely cooperating with ones in Switzerland, Chez Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ireland, Canada, Finland, Sweden.
The Department is the first one at the Law faculty, who started the two-level educational system (Bachelor’s and Master’s programs). Nowadays the Department is the only one in Black Soil Region, who carries out training of legal specialists in the frames of international legal specialization.
The international legal specialization at the Law faculty of Voronezh state university began on 1st September, 2005. Its aim is the deep study of educational subjects of international- legal direction by students.
The main goal of such education is training of highly qualified legal professionals with fundamental knowledge in the area of international law. In the frames of the specialization students gain knowledge of the contemporary issues of international and European law, practical skills of international legal profile for the following work in the bodies of state power of the Russian Federation and foreign states, in international governmental and non-governmental organizations and bodies, in commercial structures, busy in international and external-economic activities as well as for scientific work.
Students of international legal specialization take part in various international, all-Russiaand regional events and conferences. In particular, the academic group of the Department is a permanent participant of Philip Jessup international competition, one of the largest and the most prestigious legal competitions on international law in the world.
The Department carries out regular meetings of scientific workshop "The International Legal Readings", devoted to the contemporary issues of international and European law, legal systems of foreign states, the application of international law in Russian legal system. The workshops are mainly devoted to a certain topic, which is covered by a reporter. The participants then freely discuss it.
The reports are prepared by the students of the Law faculty of VSU, post-graduates, degree-seeking students of the Department of International and European Law as well as practicing lawyers. Anyone interested in international and European law issues can take part in these discussions.
On the base of the materials presenter at the workshop by the Department of International and European Law regular issues of collection of articles «The International Legal Readings», which has had 9 issues so far.
